Beautiful Blackbird Performance

In the "Beautiful Blackbird" production, I had the special privilege of taking on dual roles as both the choreographer and the performer of the main character. I crafted west african choreography that seamlessly integrated with the music.  Throughout the performance, I played multiple instruments and incorporated a loop pedal to enrich the sound. This experience enabled me to choreograph and perform while engaging the audience with live music and singing, resulting in a vibrant and immersive experience.

Ashley Bryan’s rendition of a story from the Ila-speaking community in Zambia embodies the spirit of cultural heritage and personal exploration. With its rhythmic narration, the story invites readers to value their origins while acknowledging the beauty within themselves. This enduring tale highlights the significance embracing one’s identity and honoring the richness found in diverse cultures.
